If you happen to have adventurous parents then it’s likely that you will spend your childhood changing location as often as other kids change their shoes. This was certainly the case for Fernando Agrasar until his family decided to settle by the beach of Barizo: home to brave men who go down to its stormy seas to collect barnacles. There in the middle of nowhere the family built a small guesthouse with various rooms overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with the ever present siluette of the Sisargas Islands acting as a backdrop.
This ideal place for romantic visitors was already up and running before rural tourism became popular. Here the family also opened a simple cosy restaurant where they served typical local fish stews and seafood.
One day, Fernando took over in the kitchen to help out his mother who had injured her hand. “I immediately saw that I liked all this and that I wanted to spend my time working with the fish produce, especially focusing on its boiling point and avoiding the use of sauces and garnishes”
Little by little the inn began removing the paper table cloths and started to use tableware that took on a certain air of glamour. Like his parents, Fernando continues to buy his produce in the markets of Malpica, A Coruña and Laxe. From these places he brings fresh seafood and fish like sea bass and grouper which are prepared in a variety of interesting ways.
